Friendly Friday Blog Hop # 14

Welcome to 2013!  It's a new year and the first Friendly Friday link-up of the year.
The Friendly Friday is going through some changes.  Firstly, I want to introduce you to our co-hosts each week instead of just telling you to follow them.  This will be accomplished by you simply filling out our Friendly Friday Form, if you're interested in co-hosting.  Because this will be a more organized way of doing the hop, we don't have any co-hosts lined up yet, would you like to be the first?
It's Friday and that means it's time to GROW YOUR FOLLOWERS WITH THE FRIENDLY FRIDAY HOP.  The Friendly Friday Blog Hop is a Multimedia link-up designed to help you grow all of your social sites at once.  Here, you can now link-up your  Blog , Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Bloglovin', and HelloCotton.

This week I am introducing you to our hosts.
The Friendly Friday Hop is Hosted by:

Today with the Tennerys
The Tennerys are a family of four or six if you include the dogs living in Alabama.
Follow along as Ellyssa, our very active sporty eleven-year-old daughter, cheerleads, plays basketball and softball and keeps us laughing with her personality. Read along as we learn more and more about Alex, our very lively two-year-old son, learns sign language on his way to actual speech.

Life on Peanut Layne
You're probably wondering why I'm somewhat anonymous. I have 5 kids ranging in age from 15 down to 3 so I mostly stay anonymous for their benefit. Plus, therapy is much too expensive for 5 kids and I don't think they give discounted group rates but I could wrong on that. For what it's worth i'm not that interesting, so hopefully I just saved you from wasting your precious time trying to dig up info about me. I'm just your typical mid 30's something, stay at home mom. I'm passionate about comedy and writing, if you haven't picked up on that already. My husband "J" is the more interesting out of the two of us. He is a Director of Photography for the film industry and has done some pretty cool stuff. But, I don't talk much about his career in this blog (although I have no problems making fun of his extreme fear of spiders, lol). I don't use my children's real names, but rather their first initials. The youngest is 3 and we refer to him as "Peanut". It's been his nickname for so long that he really does think his name is actually Peanut. His middle name is "Layne" hence where I got the inspiration behind "Life On Peanut Layne".

The {Not So} Fascinating Life of Tabitha -
I'm just like everyone else trying to make their way in this crazy world. I do the everyday work grind. I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend. I'm a gamer, mainly spending my time between my Sims (I affectionately call my Simmys), Minecraft, and my druid in the world of Azeroth (World of Warcraft).

I have been writing since as long as I can remember and only here recently been brave enough to share with others in hopes that someone will find something entertaining.

I currently reside in Utah with my husband, 14 year old son, two turtles, 5 fish, and a very fat cat named Mary Jane (who rules the house). I am originally from Alabama and remained there until I moved to Florida to go to film school and work for the mouse, Mickey Mouse. From there, I packed up and moved across the great USA to reside in Utah.

As of late, you can find me with a nose stuck in a textbook as I am finishing up my B.A. degree and studying to become a certified medical biller and coder.

FANtastic Friday: Shopgoodwill.com

I came across this website by accident and I am so glad I did.  I have had the most fun just browsing and looking at all the stuff that's for auction.

It is hosted by the charity Goodwill Industries, so the auctions do go to a good cause.  This site is where they auction off some of their "better" stuff instead of selling it in the stores.

The funny thing is that there is no telling what you will find on this site to bid on.

I LOVE Vera Bradly purses and I snagged me two for less than $30.00.  One purse had a monogram on the front, but that was ok.  I got my seam ripper after it and pulled the stitching out and you would never know.

I just won a Precious Moment's Native American doll for $20.00 that I know my Grandmother will love.  I can't wait for it to arrive so I can pack it up and send it off to its new home.

I looked one time and there was a prosthetic leg that had the Harley Davidson logo on it.  I kid you not.  I went back to site hoping I could find it to grab a picture to post, but no such luck.

You just never know what you will find and I love looking at all the weird and usual stuff.

Like this.  Wanna crown? Go bid on you one!

Or a hot dog costume for your dog?
Or a vintage washboard?

Perhaps I am easily amused and entrained.  Go have some fun of your own and check out Shopgoodwill.com.

Wacky and Weird Wednesday: Too Many List!

I went a tad overboard this Wacky and Weird Wednesday but I found so much stuff that I wanted to share!!

I would just like to say why haven't they come up with  blue ray player that you can load multiple movies into and just let it play??  How great would that be for kids? Just load it up full of cartoons and just let it run.

I am questioning it because I am lazy and my movie just went off and I don't want to get up and start another one, but I am way off topic here...

Digital Measuring Cup Scale

I can't make up my mind if this is the greatest or the laziest thing ever.

"The first digital measuring cup and scale combination. The unit measures in weight and volume as the recipe dictates. The 3890 digitally weighs dry ingredients as well as liquid ingredients. Preprogrammed to convert weight to volume for water, milk, oil, sugar, and flour. The weight capacity is 4.4 Pounds (2kg). The volume capacity is 1 liter. The unit weighs in increments of milliliters, cups, fluid ounces, grams, and pounds. The plastic measuring cup runs on one long life Lithium battery(included) The easy to read LCD readout is in the molded handle.A great gift for the Foodies in your life."

$28.99 on Amazon.com

The Cassette To iPod Converter

I think this thing is really cool.

"This is the device that converts audio tape cassettes into MP3 files and stores them directly onto an iPhone or iPod touch. It accepts most iPhones and iPod touches, and normal or chrome cassette tapes. With its free app, conversion to MP3 is as simple as inserting a cassette, docking an iPhone or iPod touch, and pressing play. Tapes can be listened to using the headphones jack (headphones required) or by connecting its audio output to a stereo system for scanning forward or reverse to select tracks for conversion. Cassettes can also be converted to a PC running Windows 7, XP, or Vista or a Mac using the included software. Its small footprint allows easy portability for conversion anywhere at anytime."

The Dualbrella

How great is this??

"This merger of two umbrellas eliminates the jockeying for position that occurs when two people compete for adequate coverage underneath a typical umbrella. Spanning 6' wide and 3' deep, its lightweight dual steel tubes, stretchers, and ribs provide a rigid structure that endures continued seasons opening and closing. Despite its size, only one hand is required to hold it, so its oversized canopy can also protect one person carrying an armful of packages. 100% nylon cover and pouch. Auto open; a pull-cord assists closing. Black. Closed dimensions: 36" L x 2 3/4" W. (1 1/4 lbs.)"

Trivia Tuesday: New Year's Edition

  • According to statistics from the National Insurance Crime Bureau, more vehicles are stolen on New Year's Day than on any other holiday throughout the year.
  • Why should you ring in the New Year with family and friends? It is thought that the first visitors you see after ringing in the New Year would bring you good or bad luck, depending on who you keep as friends and enemies. Keep your friends close and your enemies far, far away!
  • The Time Square New Year's Eve Ball came about as a result of a ban on fireworks. The first ball, in 1907, was an illuminated 700-pound iron and wood ball adorned with one hundred 25-watt light bulbs. Today, the round ball designed by Waterford Crystal, weighs 11,875-pounds, is 12 feet in diameter and is bedazzled with 2,668 Waterford crystals.
  • Due to wartime restrictions , the New Year's Eve ball was not lowered in 1942 and 1943.
  • Throughout the year, visitors to Times Square in New York City write their New Year's wishes on pieces of official Times Square New Year's Eve confetti. At the end of the year, the wishes are collected and added to the one ton of confetti that showers the crowd gathered in Times Square in celebration of the New Year.
  • The top three destinations in the United States to ring in the New Year are Las Vegas, Disney World and New York City.
  • Food plays a big role in New Year's traditions. Eating black-eyed peas, ham or cabbage are thought to bring prosperity. However, stay away from bad luck foods like lobsters, because they move backwards, and chicken, because they scratch in reverse. It is believed that eating these on New Year's day might cause a reversal of fortune.
  • In Colombia, Cuba and Puerto Rico families stuff a life-size male doll called Mr. Old Year with memories of the outgoing year and dress him in old clothes from each family member. At midnight he is set on fire - thus burning away the bad memories of the year.
  • According to this survey , 40 to 45 percent of American adults make one or more resolutions each year. The top New Year's resolutions include weight loss, exercise, quitting smoking and better money management. By the second week of January, 25 percent of people have abandoned their resolutions.
  • In Italy, people wear red underwear on New Year's Day as a symbol of good luck for the upcoming year.
